How to Replace a Pressure Gauge for a Well Pump?

Step 1: Unplug the electrical line from the water pump, then turn off the circuit breaker. While performing DIY projects, safety should always be a priority.
Step 2: Turn off the water to your home and drain the pressure tank with a garden hose, making sure to vent the pipe outside or by a nearby drain.
Step 3: Using the plumbing pliers, remove the existing pressure gauge and inspect for obstructions and buildups. To remove the gauge:
- Grasp the brass attachments below it.
- In a clockwise direction, move the gauge.
- If there is no accumulation, get a new replacement gauge; otherwise, remove any obstructions or sediments from the system and replace the old one.
Step 4: Put the new gauge on the female pressure threads of the pressure tank and turn it clockwise with your hand. When tightening the gauge using your hand, if it becomes difficult, apply pliers to tighten it further.
Step 5: Remove the water hose and shut off the drain.
Turn on the water pump and monitor the pressure gauge in Step 6. If it responds to changes in pressure, the pressure gauge has been effectively replaced. Turn on your home’s water supply.
Call a licensed well pump installer to examine the system if the pressure gauge continues to malfunction. There may be another issue with your well pump.
